There are three parts of you she says
Can you picture them?
The first built her house on solid ground
after consulting all the best architects
The second has no home to speak of
lusting only for food, sex
The third one, she says
is hiding in a tree house above
watching you both
waiting to pick up the pieces
to hold your head in her lap
contain your suffering
and forgive
Tears stream down my cheeks
I didn’t even know she was there

Bio: Mara Lovelock (she/her/hers) is an emerging poet whose work explores trauma, illness, domestic life, queer desire, nature, and mindfulness.
