Assassination of democracy
Our values plummeted in pits of Hell
Screw this unbridled animosity
Participation in fascism dwells
Unleashing fury on our paradigm
Eradicating our security
Dreading white power like a hackneyed rhyme
Red roses, blue violets, and perjury
We never thought tear gas would be welcome
And wishing hate mongers would bite the dust
Decorum wanted, diplomacy shunned
I know I’m not the only one who cussed
Trump ends four years of hubris with violence
Screw using our rights to remain silent

Benediction for Ice Cream by Ana Marie Boyd
I can still hear the slow jam jingle of the ice cream truck gliding along past our yellow house like it was riding on rails
