after the dungeons & dragons player’s handbook, 5th edition
currency means nothing here, last call for the end of the world. a stiff drink for a stiffer body; atrocities piling on one after another, so much so that there’s a website called genocidewatch.com. like bodies of children who will never get proper burials– the genocide is still going on.
if npr’s public editor deems hundreds of thousands in protest is not newsworthy enough, we take it to the streets; molotovin our way through the media, left with a laundry list of human wrongs means that we right them in the ways that we must. in god we trust???
when the pope refuses to meet with our vice president, we pray for the rest of the us to open their eyes instead of squeezing them shut and covering their ears. alexa, turn on noise cancelling to drown out the fact that when he relented and finally met him, he died of the cringe; held on long enough just to tell him off, literally could not even. his holiness said fuck this, im out and spongebobbed the fuck right out of this earth.
the bystander effect is bullshit. i know it is real and i am full of rage. if no one else will say anything, i will be the one. we are obligated to act simply by being, but humanity forgot what it was to be human. i only need to concentrate for just a moment to pour a shot that can sate the hunger of hadar.
give me a gateway to the dark between the stars to escape to, this is the region infested with horrors. take me to the void and let it fill me, soft whispers and slurping noises. no one left to ask for another drink; my mouth opens and instead of speaking, tendrils of smoke rise from deep within me. i cannot, will not stop screaming.

Denise “Neecie” Buitre (she/they) is a Filipino-American artist in Las Vegas, NV. An absolute delight (or menace, depending on the day); her writing touches on belonging, femininity, love, parenting, trauma, anti-capitalism, and the existential crisis of the eldritch millennial. Through poetry, she explores the scrutinization of self, status quo, and sexuality. When she’s not writing or otherwise adulting, she can be found watching anime or creating art with her kids.
