Yard work
family roots buried deep
like a banyan tree reaching out and dropping new connections down
like a mangrove with the clusters intertwined, seeds scatted on the tide
like cypress knees spreading out and reaching up
this white picket fence cage
overgrown with weeds, my yard is an embarrassment
yet my neighbors still come to me when they need help
it is easier to fix other peoples’ problems
mushroom sprout along the edge of the path
weeds grow between the bricks
raking in the loose gravel
