Sleeping In by Marlee Head

Sleeping In

feathery lilac
the moment in the morning
when the blanket’s cold
ceiling painted in pastels
prisms of ice-light dancing
dawn through the shutters
pinkish moments fading fast
snuggle deeper still
dreams twitching, kitty purring
outside glitters, aside warm
lost in peaceful sleep
winter’s freedom, resting hours
snowberry waking
purple-white of half-shut eyes
breaking into consciousness

Marlee Head’s work has appeared in the online magazines Verse of Silence and Potato Soup Journal. Her short story ‘Snake Soup’ appeared in the anthology ‘Heat the Grease, We’re Frying Up Some Poetry’ from Gnashing Teeth Publishing. She attended the 2019 Iceland Writers Retreat.
